A Visit to Lakewood Beach Park in Sheffield Lake

3/9/12
Sheffield Lake, Ohio – My wife and I visited a small shoreline park today in Sheffield Lake, Ohio.  Lakewood Beach Park is located at 3801 Lake Road (State Route 6).  The parking lot is located about 100 feet west of Lakewood Beach Drive.

It was a cold March day today with the temperature hovering around 35F and a fierce wind blowing from the West.  Lake Erie was very rough with huge 8 to 10 foot waves breaking on shore at the park.

This is a small city park, maintained by the City of Sheffield Lake Park Board.  Swimming is permitted at the beach, however it is swim at your own risk, no life guard on duty.  There are a few picnic tables placed about, with carcoal grills mounted near by.

The beach is a sandy mix with small shells.  The water is shallow near the beach, but there may be drop offs and remember, there is no life guard so watch your children and poor swimmers carefully.

This park is a great place to have an intimate picnic with your significant other, or a nice “meet you for lunch” park during the week, but during the hot summer months it is bound to get crouded as swimmers look for a place to cool off.  The park is very small, less then an acre in size, so if your planning on using one of the picnic tables, your best plan is to get there early.

We visited on a cold March day, and had the park to ourselves.  Sometimes the smallest places can work the biggest magic.  Over all, I was very pleased with the condition of the park, and the way it is maintained.  And of course, it is Lake Erie which makes this park everything.
